505 Turbo -- Gauge lag

After a lot of head scratching and confusion, I've figured out why it
seems like there's a lot less turbo lag with higher boost...The lag
doesn't change. The increased boost causes the gauge to move faster, it
even hangs up on occasion. My tach also lags. I hear the rev limiter
kick in at 5300 on the tach when I'm driving hard. When I free rev it
the tach reads to 6000. I know the tach is under by 300 RPM. It's also
nice watching the speedo float up when you stop accelerating. Is there
any way to free up these gauges without giving them the shakes?
