Oxidized paint (or rather clear coat) is very hard to remove without damaging
paint underneath, particularly if the oxidation is heavy. My latest purchase,
an 89 Mi16, has moderate oxidation on the roof and and light on the bonnet. I
have not attempted to tackle the problem as yet, but experience from trying to
remove oxidation from the roof of my burgundy V6 suggests its not going to be a
fun, easy, or terribly rewarding exercise.

But for what its worth let me share with you what a local body supply shop told
me. They said that most body shops would not do a better job than what most
owners could do with a good orbital polisher and a "fine cut" cream. There are
a number of these creams available, including Meguiar's "Fine Cut." following
the fine cut treatment use a good car polish and then seal with a hard wax
coating. Follow up the waxing every several months which is going to prevent
further oxidation. Beyond that there is very little you can do short of a
complete repaint. good luck.
