I had that problem for a couple of years in my 82 505tD before i sold it.
I don't think it's serious. At first someone had me thinking a head gasket had
blown but the noise was only at maybe 1500 and above RPM and mainly just when
the heater valve was say 1/4 to 1/3 open. If the heater valve is full open, I
assume you
no longer hear the gurgling, correct??
My hunch is it's just some peculiarity in the heater control valve. Again,
mine was a
sort of gurgling and sounded maybe a bit like someone's stomach growling. It
was more
embarrassing than anything else. I just lived with it.
