505 clutch problem

I've just bled the clutch in my 84 505 2.2 5-speed and now have no
clutch! When I bought the car the clutch fluid reservoir cap was broken.
I glued it together and thought I'd better bleed the system as the fluid
looked pretty dirty. I bought one of those one man brake bleed hoses and
bled the slave cylinder bleeder valve (I take it there's no clutch master
cylinder bleeder valve). After topping up with fresh fluid, packing up
the tools etc, the clutch (which was quite heavy before) was now super
light...too light. I can't get gears because the clutch is not
dis-engaging.
I tried getting someone else to push in the clutch while I stayed
underneath at the bleeder valve. We went through a reservoir full of
fluid, with air bubbles coming through each time. Obviously there's an
air leak, but where? Shouldn't there be fluid leaking too? I've looked at
the clutch pedal behind the dash, followed the line from clutch master
cylinder to slave cylinder, but no leaks.
I've done this operation on other cars and it's usually a simple
five-minute job. Any ideas on what's gone wrong? Is this a sure
indication that my master cylinder has lunched itself?
Phil
