The model Mi16x4 was sold in my country Japan during 1991-1992.
About hundreds of Mi16x4 still exists here, I guess.
Just before I buy my current Mi16 '93, I was also considering
to buy Mi16x4 (but in vain, due mainly to few existence of
good condition...).

| I saw an ad today for a -90 405 Mi16 4x4, low mileage,
| apparently good condition, and a quite low price.
| So, does anyone know any details about this car,
| like how is the quality of the transmission
| ( entire driveline for that matter)?
| There must be like 8 CV joints, 2 or 3 U-joints, 2 differentials and
| some kind of transfer box, so it could get quite expensive
| if the quality is not what it should be....
Yes, some owners in Japan encountered differential problems
and I've heard that it's too expensive (about 500,000 Yen
= 4000 U.S. dollar).
The problem is that the gear teeth is very small (about 2.0mm each!)
and sometimes is chiped and nicked.
I have also heard that there exists revamped differential unit
available from PEUGEOT, and authorized owner (?) can get for free,
only with this trouble and with low-mileage.
Anyway, if you try to buy this unit, it's too expensive.
| How is it geared compared to the regular Mi,
| and is fuel consumption outrageous?
Gear ratio is exactly the same as regular Mi,
except the final ratio (just a little lower, I remember).
As for fuel consumption, it's not so bad.
For Japanese edition, x4 runs 8km-9km per littre,
while regular Mi16 runs 9km-10km per littre.
| Were they all equipped with that adjustable suspension (ride height)?
| Is it any good?
No. hydropneumatic system is built into rear suspension,
but not adjustable. It only auto-adjust horizontal even when
heavy luggage.
BTW, there is emergency height-lifter switch in the rear trunk.
If pushed, the hydropnewmatic rear suspension lifts up at top level.
Hope this helps,
