Another factor here is tire pressure. The rear pressures given on the door are for a fully loaded vehicle, at least five people plus luggage. For normal use the pressure is much higher than needed. I go for 3 psi more than the front so for my car its 28 front, 31 rear, rather than the 36 recommended. For my purposes this has been OK even with the car fully loaded, as long as its less than 20 miles and not highway speeds, or lightly loaded (2 adults, 2 kids, normal luggage) at any speeds.
