405 Mi16 Exhaust

The original exhaust system on my '89 Mi16 just broke at the front flange
behind the cat. Because the car is from SF, California the system is
still rust free; the break seems to have occured just from the stress of
103,000 miles of vibration and heat on the flange.

It seems a shame to have to waste a perfectly good piece (the middle
resonator section) just because such a tiny part of it is bad, but because
it requires a flange at the tip I'm having trouble figuring out how to
repair it. Didn't someone on the list just replace their resonator with a
straight pipe? I can't remember how it worked out (is it noisy with just
the rear muffler?).

Has anyone on the list had this happen and solved it without replacing the
resonator? It seems like all I really need is about a 2 inch long 2.25
inch pipe with a flange at the end that I could have welded to the
resonator, but I don't know where to find this.
