86 505 gas turbo - starter

I was able to buy a parts car with personality. When you turn the ignition to start the spring does not return the key motion, and you have to wiggle the key in the on position to turn the power off to the starter. Any ideas? Does the ignition/lock from an 85 td fit the 85 turbo gas? Would I have to switch the whole steering column? or just the lock/ignition? Thanks for any ideas you may have. Dennis Tanner
