Hi,

I wasn't sure what to title this post but here's what happen yesterday
around 8pm on my way home from a 240 mile trip.

I was driving on the interstate with three kids in the 405, everything
was fine when suddenly, something hit the underside of the car. I hadn't
run over anything so, I slowed to 60 and gingerly drove 2 miles to the
next exit and stopped at the top of the ramp to inspect the car. I
really didn't expected to find anything wrong, but, unfortuantely was
greated with a ton of oil flowing from under the car.

I looked under the front and could see the oil pouring from the drain
plug however, the drain plug was still in place, so I suspected a crack
or something. The engine was too hot for me to really get under and look
at the problem so with the help of a local sheriff who had stopped, I
loaded the kids into his car and rode across the interchange to the only
business at the intersection, the "Hoosier Pride Truck Stop".

>From there I called "Mom" to come and get us and AAA to come and get the
car. BIG thanks to all of you who recommended the AAA plus membership
(with the 100 miles of free towing). Boy, did it pay for itself last
night! Of course, a band of thunderstorms rolled in about this time and
it took three hours for AAA to get a tow truck to us. We finally made it
home, with the 405 following behind us, right at midnight.

This morning, I went out to inspect the car and was surprise to find that
the "oil sensor thing" that is located right above the drain plug was
missing and in it's place a drain plug size hole. I have an extra drain
plug bolt so I just screwed it into the hole and the problem was fixed.
Now all I need is oil and the car should be good to roll.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the sensor did? As I recall it
wasn't hooked up to anything on the DL and some of us thought it was the
temp sensor for the Mi model?

If it's not needed then it might be prudent for DL owners to go ahead and
remove it and replace it with a plug.

Thanks
Philip Glotfelty

PS.

The PS is, thank God I stopped to check out the noise, and thank God for
Castrol
Syntec. Can you imagine what running a hot engine with no oil would have
done to an 8 valve? :-(
