I purchased my car with 60k miles (no lubricant) and have driven another
60k miles using the lubricant. I add a few ounces at each fill-up. I am
convinced it adds 2-3 mpg and quiets the engine considerably. I think it
would be worthwhile in older cars, as I think it is never too late to add
lubrication to the internal workings of your motor (but I am not a
mechanic). I do not trust the oil companies to add enough lubrication. I
expect them to maximize profits, and there is little, if any, economic
incentive for the oil companies to add lubricants which could extend an
average car's useful life from say, 10 to 15 years.
I use the LubriGas(somewhere in Michigan) brand of upper cylinder
lubricants. They sell almost exclusively to fleet vehicle operators, but
I join an uncle who runs it in his diesel marine engine and we buy it 10
gallon lots. A gallon will last me over a year (17k miles)
