I've got some questions relating to my 405's manifold exhaust system. I
think that I need to replace something in the system near the front, as
there is a rattling/clicking noise. it seams to be emanating from the
manifold, or a joint nearby. During school last year, I worked at a
dealership, so I was able to ask a lot of questions. On the manifold, I
was told that if it were bad, it would sound similar to a problem in the
lifters (i.e. the ticking sound). Does this sound correct?
If so, how much does it cost to replace the manifold, and, how difficult
would it be to do myself? Is everything connected by bolts up there?
I'm not interested in replacing the rest of the system, as the pipes and
muffler sound and look great (with a nice BMW-ish rumble). Does this
sound like a relatively easy task for my driveway? Ideas? Next year, I
may have access to the garage after hours, assuming I go back to work
there.
Also, where should I look for cracks on the manifold? i understand it
is a common ailment on the 405. I just want my car to stop sounding
like a Volkswagen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any advise would be most welcome. Summer is here for me and I'm itching
for a project!
