I just subscribed to the Peugeot list in order to better understand a car I
am thinking of buying, but have no experience with whatsoever.
As an owner of a 1984 Volkswagen GTi and a 1977 Fiat 124 Spider...and being
the previous owner of a 1992 Corrado VR6, I am no stranger to 'odd' cars.
(Well...the Rabbit isnt odd), but I completely unfamiliar with French cars.
I am going to look at a 1989 405 Mi16 tomorrow, and am looking for the
list's opinions concerning a few things.
The following:
It has 138k on the odo....the person selling it is the second owner, he
bought it from the original owner 1.5 years ago, but has no records with the
car from the original owner. He says the clutch, timing belt, alternator,
and some brake work have all been done within the past 2 years. Everything
inside the car works as well..windows, sunroof, except what is mentioned below.
Any other mechanical things I should watch out for?
The driver's side heated seat no longer works. Easy fix? Parts?
138k.....I am very familiar with Audi and Porsche engines and their ability
to go 300k without an issue. But the Mi16 is a hot high stress engine.
Any thoughts on the mileage?
What are the performance "numbers" on the car...not times, but HP, Torque..etc..
