your cruise control needs to have a sensor inline with the speedo cable. I
replaced my cable 3 years back and when I pulled out the old cable, it had
the sensor on it for the cruise control. The new cable did not have the
sensor on it. I do not need cruise, so I did not bother with fixing it. In
its present state, it acts just like yours does, because the cruise
processor thinks that the car is not moving. I heard that there was a change
to relocate that sensor out of its original position, which was just below
the instrument cluster, to down near the transmission, due to clicking
noises it was thought to produce. I am not sure if the relo was to inside or
outside of the car's passenger compartment. A quick look at the whole cable
assembly should tell you if the sensor is installed in your car. If you
don't see it, it is not there and your cruise will not work.

Does anyone have any definite no-fail technique for determining which CV
shaft is going bad based on noise? My Mi16's driveline makes noise when
holding a speed in 4th or 5th gear. The noise goes away upon acceleration,
but the noise, which sounds like a rumble, turns into an axle-speed clicking
when turning to the left under most speed situations, more pronouonced when
coasting or slowing. I want to say it's the right shaft (don't care which
joint) but was looking for someone with better knowledge to confirm, since
it's not particularly intuitive to me as to how to isolate this with a
stopped car! I can get a rebuilt shaft assembly from Auto Zone for $99 and
wish to move forward with this as soon as possible.
Thanks.
