Oil makes a difference!!

The rubber gasket on the oil cap wasn't making a good seal since it has
gotten hard and brittle. So I was forced to keep putting oil in once a
week until I replaced the gasket with a few large rubber bands (now it
seals tight). Instead of putting in Mobil 1 synthetic 10W30 in, I got
some pennzoil 10W40. My dad had been putting in Mobil 1 for the past
year and he tends to be pretty knowledgable about cars (he also speaks
and more importantly reads french - we have a french man. on 505's from
'81 to '87).
After hearing about how synthetic oils leak easier and don't make a big
diff. on older cars, I decided to get the right oil. I got out my
manual ,and after looking for a while, got penzoil 10W40 and the correct
grade.
2 quarts later: the car runs cooler and smoother, my dad got the right
oil for his '88 ford escort (bleeech) and has got the same results, and
I'm now saving about $1 a quart.
I'm going to do a full oil change with the penzoil tomorrow. I would
also like to get the correct fluids for other parts of the car. I've
heard talk on the list about the correct tran. fuid for the 4hp22. What
fuid is the recomended trans. fluid.
Thanks for any help.
