Steve-

Do you do this with the radiator cap off, and if so, would that affect
the operating temperature (given the change in system pressure)? And
is it a dificult procedure to calibrate the temp. gauge? Right now, I
feel fairly confident that my car is not overheating, and that the
fans and other associated components are operating correctly. But of
course, better to be safe than sorry.

I don't think you should trust the temp gauge. Lots can be wrong, i.e.
gauge calibration, elec. contact problems between temp sender and gauge
etc can give you an incorrect reading. Only sure way to determine
actual coolant temp is with a calibrated thermometer in the radiator.
Use the opportunity to calibrate the temp gauge in your Instrument
cluster.

Hi Renato-

Is 190 deg. considered overheating for a 405? I had thought that
maybe getting up to 220 or something was bad...Was 190 the max. temp.
your car was reaching, or the average, or what? My car cycles between
about 165-190 deg. during normal driving, and never above 190...I
thought that seemed normal. Any advice is appreciated!
