Check those electrical connections!

I just fixed the reverse light in my 85 505 5 spd wagon before it started
pouring outside. Both reverse lights stopped working about a week ago.
Since they are both wired in parallel, I checked fuse F8 which was ok.
Then I checked for voltage at the reverse switch (left hand side of
transmission) with xmsn in reverse and ign. on and it was ok. Next I
cleaned the male spade lug contacts of the reverse switch with fine
sandpaper, applied anti-seize, insert/ remove the female spade conectors
a few times to clean and voila! I have reverse lights again. I plan on
degreasing the connections and then apply RTV to seal out the environment
to prevent this problem from happening again.

To clean the male connectors is easy, but not he females. Does anyone
know of a commonly available solvent that will clean corrosion from elec.
contacts by soaking overnight? I am thinking of trying baking soda
first. If that doesn't work, I'll try anti-freeze.
