Hi Charlie..
Thanks for the response. I tried to use an old belt to hold the water
pump pulley while I tried to turn the nut, but I was just using a pair
of vice-grips and not the pipe. Good idea to use the pipe and I can see
where that would work.! Thanks. Actually, I didn't work TOO hard
trying to get it apart since I never did get an acceptable replacement
pump. So, for now, I have solved my problem another way. (Delayed
replacing the water pump that is) What I did is drill out the small
leak in the side of the water pump to about 3/8 inch diameter and built
a device using a piece of rubber hose between two washers on a 1/4 inch
bolt. (similar to a rubber freeze plug) that I was able to force into
the hole and by tightening up the screw, expand the rubber hose against
the washers and plug the hole. I think that this will take care of the
problem. The rest of the water pump seems to be in fine condition- no
leaks around the bearing and it runs true. I've been driving it all
week and not a sign of a leak.
