Name: Austin Hoover
Age: 59
Location: Las Cruces, NM, USA
Occupation: Librarian/archivist/historian
Other interests: gardening, home improvement, books, (Peugeots, of course)
Peugeots presently own
1991 505 SW8 Turbo N9TEA/4HP22 4 speed 90,000 miles plus some for broken
speedo (Peugeot rep's vehicle, purchased as new, a nice rocket ship for
high altitudes)
1984 505 STI XN6/3HP22 3 speed 117,000 miles (purchased used at 32,000
miles. I once had an exciting ride in this one. I hit a sheet of water at
80 mph and one side aquaplaned. I took out a few mesquite bushes as I spun
out across the median. I lost the endpiece from the exhaust system, warped
a wheel, knocked the wheels out of alignment, and collected some scratches
in the paint. The positraction didn't seem to work; I had no power to
either rear wheel and could not control it).
1984 505 GL TD wagon XD2S/3HP22 3 speed 125,000 plus many miles for broken
speedo (Peugeot rep's vehicle, purchased as new, good wagon)
1981 505 GL TD sedan XD2S/BA10/5 5 speed 118,000 (purchased new, very good
car)
Some one in the family drives each of the above.
1981 505 S TD sedan XD2S/3HP22 3 speed (parts car)
1979 Chevrolet C10 pickup (engine is "worn out" at 126,000 miles; this is
the big difference between American products and Peugeots)
Others owned:
1974 504 gas sedan (purchased new; the best riding car I have owned or
ridden in)
1974 504 gas wagon (purchased used)
1970 504 gas sedan (my first Peugeot, purchased new, an outstanding car and
cost almost nothing to go 100,000 miles)
1969 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe (purchased new, the most sure-footed vehicle I
have owned, but made of tin foil and cheap plastic, valve guides were good
only for 30-35K)
1966 (I think) Volkswagen fastback (purchased used; I have tried to forget
about this one)
1962 Corvair Monza (purchased new, fun car)
1955 Ford 2 door (purchased used, good engine for an American make)
1950 Chevrolet 4 door sedan (purchased used)
