It's 86degF here in Sunny Rochester, NY today, not the desert but hot
enough. I had to run on a few mile trip so I decided to look at the inlet
tract air temperature. Not scientific, but quick, I stuffed the
thermocouple in the tract at the last hose before the throttle body. With
the engine still hot (from church trip) it was a finger burner! At start
up, no motion at idle 147F. As I got going and the baked engine cooled it
got down to 114F no boost. Using the standaard 3000RPM boost test at 30-40
mph, I found that after a 4-5 seconds of max boost (620 mBar) the temp
would soar by 20-25 degrees.

This reaffirms the need for keeping the intake air to the airbox cool and
the need for an intercooler. As time permits (I still gotta get that ECU
fixed) I'll do something more scientific and use that data to assess the
benefit of my to-be-added air/water intercooler.
