The sunroof motor is located behind the left side panel in the trunk (in
front of the jack). The motor drives a cable that is routed through a
plastic tube housing up to the sunroof panel. Either the plastic tube has
broken (typical), or the cable is stripped such that the gear on the motor
will not move the cable (this is what has happened to me twice). If the
cable is the problem, you can install a new one without having to remove the
tube (get into the headliner etc.). Simply remove the inner panel of the
sunroof (held on with 4 xmas tree clips), then remove the 2 nuts holding the
cable assembly. Pull out the cable, and push in a new one. Since it is
often the plastic tube housing that has failed, I have been able to get the
cable alone from Brian Holm for around US$30-40. The cable with the housing
is around $100 from the dealer. Lubricate everything, since this is probably
why your cable failed in the first place (if that's the problem).
