505 turbo's--does their performance vary from unit to unit?

It depends on the weight of the turbo prop I think. The heavier the prop
the slower it'll kick in but the longer it'll stay running. Lighter ones
tend to start working at lower rpms and stop running very fast. A friend of
mine had a VW bus that had the TD engine by VW and a small turbo. It was
for giving the engine more air at lower rpms and accelerate faster. The car
was still a piece of junk, or actually the bus, but it would at least get
up to 60 in a resonable time. I've heard of people having to replace a
turbo on a Volvo 760 Turbo Diesel. The old turbo had burnt but was making a
nice jet buzzzzzzz. The new one didn't make any noise at all but
performance was worse.
It all depends on the brand and quality/weight I think
Remember to oil that sucker with good oil.
