81 504TD: Changing rear main seal

Well I took the pan off and removed the main bearing block yesterday.
The main seal at the top of the crank seems very hard to change.
It looks like it would require undoing all the bearing blocks and
lifting the crank up. Could I simply replace only the lower seal?
I would think if one is going to leak it would be this one anyway.

I also noticed some heat bluing on the edges of a couple of the
con rod big end blocks. Near the next main bearing. I am hoping
this is a symptom of whatever required the engine to be rebuild,
and not a recent thing.

On another note:

Are the crankshaft and flywheel balanced seperately.
i.e. can I just swap the new flywheel on to the crank
and bolt on the clutch?

Thanx,
