Subject: Adding an oil cooler

The car is an '86 505TD. The oil temp runs just below redline, about 90%
of scale, in the summer. Some say that's normal but I think I might be
able to do better than factory. The stock cooler is not in the air
stream at all and is rather small. I want to put in a 5 x 9 inch
aluminum oil cooler in front of the radiator where it will have good air
flow. Question -- is it really necessary to insure that the hoses enter
from top, or less desirably from the side?? Those are the instructions
from Hayden and other aftermarket folks. The idea is to allow purging
air bubbles which MAY be difficult if hoses are on the bottom, such as
Peugeot uses, hmmm..... Anyone know if hose placement is REALLY
important?? Thanks.
