I am having the following symptoms in my '85 505 TD sedan:
1. coolant leaks out (not from radiator though, but from somewhere in
the mid-engine section in the passenger side)
2. the car starts to miss and there is considerable pressure build-up in
the system (hoses enlarge with pressure) IF I drive with the original
expansion tank cap tightly closed. However, I have drilled a hole in
the original cap and this allows me to drive (I seldom drive this car
now due to this problem) without building pressure, missing, and blowing
out white smoke from the tailpipe.
3. sound of the engine is a little bit changed since I first got the car
...
Question:
How would I know whether it is the head itself that is cracked or
whether it is just the head gasket?
how much does a rebuilt head cost if it comes to that?
Anything else that might be causing this?
