I took my Peugeot on a 300 mile roadtrip today. On the first half of the
journey the inside of the car suddenly stank of gasoline -- the smell was
strong enough to be decidingly unpleasant. The smell lasted about ten
minutes. I was travelling and down hills at the time with the air
conditioning on; the temperature outside was 110F. The car did not
overheat. When I reached my destination I looked under the hood and car
for gas leaks, but everything looked fine. So I'm a bit mysified as to what
caused the stink. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm guess that it had
something to do with the gas tank venting because of the heat.
