Yep, my '93 405 STI was doing just the same, and
in my case the cure turned out to be quite cheap
and (relatively) easy. (1) I cleaned up the
linkage between gearlever and box, spraying it
with carburettor cleaner, wiping it off with
rags, before re-greasing for posterity. (2) I
changed the oil in the gearbox, which cost about
=A320 UK for two litres of 75/80W Castrol oil, and
seemed quite easy to do, apart from refilling
the box which is an absolute swine! (slowly is
definitely the way) Make sure you use new
washers on the drain and fill plugs, and clean
the magnetic plugs thoroughly before refitting=20
(3) Check clutch clearance - the Haynes manual
gives dimensions for proper pedal travel and
details of how to check and rectify this.

Can anyone help me with my ABS problem - the
light comes on intermittently. My car has the
Bendix additional system. Friendly Peugeot
garage says problem is rear sensors, and wants
to charge =A3130 each plus fitting. I don't
believe him, as if it was sensors surely it
would be a constant problem. Does anyone know
of any (cheaper) source for Bendix parts?

Cheers,

Steve Rodrigues
