Hugo. I think I read an answer to this question, but I'll give it also just in case. The Gauge has two functions: Oil level and Oil temp. Ignition on the gauge will measure oil level. It will measure the same just after you start the engine. Several seconds after engine start, the gauge changes function and measures oil temp. Ever notice how the gauge drops just after engine start???

Ever notice the two symbols just to the right and left of the needle? The one to the left is the oil level indicator and will be illuminated while the gauge is measuring oil level. The one to the right is oil temp, but does not illuminate.

Also you should notice the gauge itself has two sectors. The upper one has five white lines and a red sector to the right. The one below has the red sector to the left. The upper sector is used while the gauge is indicating the oil temp. The lower is used (and also illuminates) when the gauge is measuring oil level.

Just FYI. Further to the left of the gauge, you will find the oil pressure indicator. This will light with the ignition on and should go off when the engine starts.

Hope this helps.

Ray

All,

what does the oil gauge on the 505 measure? Oil pressure? Oil level? Or
oil temperature?
