405 Mi16, '89 - head gasket leak

I saw smoke coming out from under the hood a couple of days ago, but it
stopped before I could get over to check it. Happened again today and I
managed to get to a gas station while it was still smoking. The mechanic
and & I took a look and saw a small oil drip coming under the gasket on the
back side of the head (smokes when it hits the hot metal).

Is this something I can take care of easily by tightening the bolts on the
head, or do I need to get to my mechanic soon? Anyone know the average cost
to replace the head gasket?
