I don't know whether the valve will work w/o the tube.
I believe its purpose is to shut off the flow of water if it turns to steam
thus a safety
feature. 90% of the time and effort in changing the whole core is undoing
and reconnecting
the valve so once you have the valve off there is one screw on the drivers
side to
remove and the core slides out . This should make it easy to get the new coil
in place.
