Subject: 2nd of four-part documentation on Mi16 timing belt replacement

10) insert the locking pins and gently tap them into place until
you hear/feel the pins hit the cylinder head. The taper allows the
pins to totally jam the sprockets. ****!!

11) lock crank sprocket using suitable insert (allen key, drill bit, etc) **

12) loosen the front then the rear timing belt tensioner pulleys using
6 mm allen. Lower engine to get at the front pulley from the wheel
well. Raise engine and get at the rear pulley from the top. I used a
long allen leveraged by thin hollow metal tube to break the bolt free.

13) pull tension pulleys out and inspect by turning inspect tension
pulleys for wear. Free play should minimal. If the tensioner pulley
rotates freely and sounds like a roller skate it needs to be replaced.
Originally these are packed with grease and make little or no sound
when rotated. The ones that came off my car made a lot of noise when
rotated. I called a local peugeot dealer and he said that they
repacked them on all the mi16s they serviced. So I had them take it
apart, inspect and repack them for 25 bucks a piece. I believe each
new one costs 80 bucks. (hope I did the right thing by not buying new).

14) remove timing belt. Note that on removing belt there should be
no movement whatsoever of the cam sprockets. This is the ideal and
this is what ensures that the new belt fits properly with the correct
timing. DO NOT TURN CRANKSHAFT ONCE TIMING BELT IS REMOVED.
