405 auto trany

Well I did it, I bought the 91 405S I emailed about last week. It runs
great, has every toy made, and everything works (except the remote lock).

I am writing because I know nothing about auto transmissions. Any tips
on how to drive to make them last? Should I get a cooler? Can I shut the
car off after a long high speed drive (like at a rest stop?) What is the
1, 2, and 3 for? Can I put it in 3 when I am moving at a speed where it
keeps hunting?

I'm 52 years old. I have visited every part of a engine and standard
transmission but I know nothing about automatics except my wife likes them
and now her car / the trip car has one. (It's the trip car because the
cruse control and the air work. Neither work in my 91 405DL

Thanks

Frank
