Nissan Motor Co Ltd and Renault SA will introduce platform sharing on their
Sunny and Megane model passenger cars to reduce the variety of their
models to 37 from 60 at present, the Nihon Kogyo newspaper reported.

The two, which announced a capital tie-up in March, said they will also
integrate their Micra and Clio model compact cars platforms to reduce their

Under the new plan, Renault is expected to use Nissan's newly developed

Pulserm, it said.

According to the latest survey by a local association, Nissan's Sunny model
received the highest AAA rating following normal collisionn tests.

Separately, Nissan is examining the possibiliy of selling Renault model cars
through its dealer network in Japan from mid-2000, the report said.
