As I've mentioned before, some times the variable power assist steering on
my Pug malfunctions. At parking lot speeds there is insufficient power
assist sometimes. Turn the engine off and back on and the problem goes
away. Well, yesterday when the problem occurred, it was accompanied by a
relatively loud whine that sounds electrical in nature. I haven't heard
this noise before. Presumably the noise is coming from the power steering
pump. Does anyone know what the noise indicates?
