That guy with the NSU was in fact at Carlisle last year as well. Auto Union,
Horch, DKW, and Wanderer were the four companies (and hence the four rings in
the logo) that became Audi. NSU was independent until 1969 (I believe, or
1970), at which point they were pretty much bankrupt from having to replace all
those rotary engines under warranty, as the rotor tip seals would let all the
oil out of the engine after 10K miles, destroying the engine. At that point,
they were bought and absorbed into the VW group. The Ro80 (the one at the meet)
was then rereleased with a VW internal combustion engine and sold until '77.

My mia culpa for omitting the 405's. Yes, it was a good day for the French.
Also, an NSU Wankel drove by our area and parked down the road apiece. Now
that was a strange car. Was that a precursor to AUDI??
