- The wipers and heater blower flat don't work. I think a fuse may be
blown; I really need a fuse diagram/chart to confirm this.
- Nor do the rear windows. Could it also be a blown fuse? In both cases,
absolutely nothing happens when you push/move the appropriate
switch/button, respectively. Unfortunately, without being able to wind
them down, I can't start peeling off the horrid tint until they drop.
- There are some holes in the exhaust, which, to get it through smog, I
will temporarily patch until I can replace the offending section(s).
- Trunk/boot lock is shot; I'll see if I can't make the one from the 405
fit. That'll automatically give me two keys to it ;)
- Smell of oil when warm, and soot at the exhaust tip. Power delivery is
*great*, though - much better than the 405 - so rings may be OK. It could
just be over-full, or dripping onto the exhaust manifold, but I really
haven't had time to look into it yet.
That's about it for the downsides. I didn't get to drive it much, owing
to the out-of-date registration and lack of smog certification, but it's
fun. The handling is not as sharp as the 405, but the gearbox is decent
(new clutch, linkage needs adjustment), and I prefer the somewhat higher
seating position. It's also noticeably more relaxed at speed (85 MPH),
probably courtesy of the additional cog (my 405 was an automatic).
Now... I'm trying to determine which model it is. Basically, it's a 1985
4-cylinder with power windows and sunroof. I think it may have had power
mirrors, but there's a gaping knob-shaped hole where I think the control
went (located roughly where a 405's fuse box would be). It also has heated
seats and air. The interior is some horrible (but professionally-fitted)
blue velour stuff, obviously a recent addition. The wheels are some sort
of aftermarket alloys, sprayed a particularly unflattering shade of matte
black. Oh, and it has the spoiler from a 505 Turbo, the 'Turbo' part of
which is scheduled to be sympathetically removed - I'd prefer to not have
some idiot try to steal my car in the mistaken belief that it's a rocket ;)
In any case, according to carfax.com (invaluable to anyone buying a
secondhand car, IMHO), it's a 505 S. Does this sound right?
Anyhow, it'll be interesting to see how the two compare. There's a lot of
difference between them, but the recognisable Peugeot traits are most
definitely there.
