405 A/C problems, part 4

I thought I'd be able to do a "and the winner is..." and declare a winner
from one of those who offered suggestions as to what's wrong with my A/C.
But no one came up with the answer because it relates to something I
didn't mention in my previous postings about the problem: the fact that
the STOP light and the water hot light are on a lot. They were on almost
constantly last winter until I replaced the thermostat, weren't on much
up to a few weeks ago (when the weather warmed up), and have been on much
of the time lately.
So I got a professional opinion.
Even though the engine's not running hot (temp gauges read normal all the
time), the switch that turns on the STOP light is also telling the A/C to
stop running because the engine's overheating. Thus, the A/C is just
ducky. It's that stupid switch that's keeping it from running.
How 'bout them apples?
(Thanks for all your help, regardless of the outcome)
