Re: Again- Synthetic versus Dino

I had the Mobil 1 0W30 with 9,000 miles from my 85 XN6 wagon with 145K
tested at Wear Check and it was still good. I had changed it to 10W30
dino just to see if dyno versus synthetic made any difference in the
color of the oil after 3000 miles. Well, it is close to 3k (2800) on the
dino oil and it is amber though not like it just came out of the bottle.
I would say that the type of oil makes very little difference in its
color after a certain milage in my XN6. The "experiment" is done and I
will go back to synthetic in the next oil change. I like less frequent
oil changes.

I have the Fumoto quick drain valve on the XN6 wagon and it's such a
pleasure to use. The next oil change I will try a paper funnel made
from not very absorbent slick magazine paper and tape and drain it into a
5 gallon plastic drain container with a cover and a cap. After the oil
is drained and the valve closed, I'll just burn the funnel. This way I
think I should be able to do the oil change with no mess and no cleanup
of any kind. -Steve
