86 505 Sedan Tranny mounts

Well, I contacted the local shop about the tranny mounts/supports, and the
guy there said that the sedan didn't have mounts, and that most likely the
engine mounts were bad if the transmission were hanging low. *sigh* I am
not a transmission guy, so I don't know. Here are the symptoms though:

Transmission hanging a little low
Shaking is pretty dramatic at 55+
Slight whining sound that it seems only *I* can hear

I also have that typical ka-chunk when I put the car into either drive or
reverse, which I would take to mean some worn splines on the rear end
section... but it may be related to the above things. It's most likely not
a transmission problem, because the mechanic who has worked on the car since
it was fairly new told me that the tranny was redone about 5k before I got
it (so the rebuild has less than 30k on it now).

Every mechanic who has heard the shifting has voiced concern that the rear
end/drive shaft or something is making that ka-chunking sound, but it's done
that since I got the car. *shrug* Maybe it is beginning to rear its ugly
head now.

Any help/suggestions/prognosis would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks....

Eric
