Wipers - grabby, chatty and otherwise

Although I have had excellent results using the really expensive rain
repellent in aircraft (MilSpec stuff) I never use the cheap stuff on the car
because it is highly corrosive to paint. (The salt here is bad enough - why
make it worse?)

However, I have also found that the wax sprayed on in automatic car washes,
then air dried on your windshield is a great recipe for grabby wipers.
Worse, it sticks like you know what in a blanket.

On a separate windshield related matter, I am amazed at how resilient the
glass in my 505 is. I have taken no end of stones and small rocks with mine,
without even a star or even a chip -- even at -40 degrees. I'm also
impressed at what an efficient job the rear wiper does on 505 wagon - the
rake of the rear window allows a longer blade and a full arc, nicely placed,
providing good coverage.

Can't say as many nice things about the washer system, though. Not to
offend any tender sensibilities with the metaphor, but the front windshield
washer reminds me of a 90-year old man with an enlarged prostate and the
rear wiper reminds me of a corpse.
