As far as testing, you could attach a short piece of hose to the suctio=
n side, put it in a container of fuel and stroke the plunger to see if it w=
ill draw up the fuel. To prime the pump, turn the plunger handle countercl=
ockwise until free from its threads, loosen the bleed screw, stroke the plu=
nger until fuel free from air bubbles flows from bleed screw, tighten bleed=
screw while still stroking plunger. =

I like this filter arrangement, as it allows you to visibly check for w=
ater in your fuel.
