My '85 505S Wagon won't start! By that I mean, I get no response from the
starter at all when I turn the ignition key over to the start position. The
first thing I checked was to make sure that I get current at the female wire
that slips over the connection at the starter solenoid. The test light
confirmed that current is going to that wire when the ignition key is turned
to the start position. Thinking that the starter might be bad, I replaced it
with an extra that I had that I knew to be good. Replacing the starter made
no difference.
I did bench test both starters while they were out of the car and they both
appeared to be OK.
At this point I am thinking it might be one of the four following
possibilities:
1) A bad ground connection;
2) A bad ignition switch. This is probably not the problem and I say that
because the test light indicates that current does go through the female lead
that slips over the solenoid when the ignition switch is in the start
position.
3) A bad starter relay. When the ignition switch is in the start position
and the test light indicates that current is going to the solenoid, I don't
here anything "clicking". Shouldn't I hear the "click" of a starter relay at
that point? Does anybody know where the starter relay is located and what it
looks like? Does anybody have one they can sell?
4) A bad neutral safety switch. Could this be the problem or would it have
nothing to do with it?
Anyway, any help from anybody out there in Peugeot-land would be appreciated.
Thanks,
