I've been living with only full speed or off, apparently caused by those
transistors being blown, for at least six months. I was unable to track
down any source for them, or any cross-reference. I checked with a
distributor for the manufacturer and was told they couldn't find any such
part number. I suspect this means that that transistor is (was) strictly
a European device.

The only solution I can come up with is to build or buy a pulsed power
supply (scale model railroaders - as opposed to toy train operators - use
them to get realistically slow speed from their locomotives). All I need
is the time to get around to it. They're not very complicated.

If anyone else has better luck finding that part, please let me know. At
this rate, A/c season will be long gone by the time I build that power
supply.
