xd2s vs xd3t engine blocks

In the course of restoring my wagon I have pulled out two diesel
engines and dismantled both. One is an xd2s which came out of the wagon
being restored, the other is an xd3t which I decided to rebuild and
install into the wagon. i could not help but notice that the two blocks
are identical as far as the gross features are concerned -- water and
oil holes, oil spray nozzles etc. I thought maybe the bore on the xd3t
would be longer, but not so, the two have identical length bores and
although I have not rmeasured them with an inside micrometer, the bores
appear to be very close in diameter too. So here is my question.
Can one ome up with 2.5 L "xd3t" engine using an xd2s block but all the
rest from the xd3t engine (head, crank, cam, pump, rod and pistons and
flywheel etc..)?
And vise versa, can one come up with a 2.3 "xd2s" engine using an xd3t
block but all the rest from an xd2s engine?
One of the reasons I m asking this is that the xd3t block seems to have
a little more wear in the bores compared to the bores in the xd2s block.
(as judged from visual checks and using ring gap measurement).
thanks in advance
