I've been working on my car for quite some time, and it had a sort of
solenoid problem.... so when I had the head off, of course I had to take the
intake manifold off, which is not an easy task, and I think I know why they
would charge that much, you would need a new intake manifold gasket, because
they would remove it, also another throttle body gasket as well. The
problem with my starter was nothing at all, my friend (who works in a place
where they rebuild starters and stuff) just cleaned it up and even painted it
black... and it now works every time!!!

But what you're describing sounds something like an alternator problem, with
the engine up to temp, it sounds like the alternator is not putting out
enough amps to satisfy but let's your car still run without dying... try this
on for size, run your car, turn on every accessory on one at a time, check
your battery light as you turn on each accessory, your battery light will
come on, but dim and brighter as you turn on each additional accessory, so If
I were you, maybe I was going to try this, I was going to get an optima
spriacel battery, so none of that would happen....... if you want to, try an
optima spiracell battery and tell me what happens!
