Some of the problems sound like a ground problem either the (-) battery
terminal and/or other grounds. One more possibility is no engine to
chassis ground. Missing a ground on my 405 did not cause any problems
but who knows.
I've not had any electrical problems on my 405 DL but I noticed when I
put a new exhaust on recently that there are two braided metal ground
straps that connect from a bolt on the exhaust flange to the chassis.
Seems to me that would ground the engine to the chassis. Mine were
both broken and I had no problems, but I bought a braided metal cable
ground strap and replaced it just in case. I assume this would allow
the engine not to have to be grounded through the motor mounts.
Can anyone shed any light on how necessary these 405 muffler to chassis
ground straps are??
