Disengaging Automatic Seat Belts

Does anyone know a clever and elegant way to disengage the Automatic
feature of a passenger sided seat belt for a 1991 405 DL ?. I always though
this feature to be annoying but I lived with it until the motor started
going "berserk". It is probably jammed and I would rather disengage it
than fix this jam. Any comments?
