I think the fact of the matter is that water pumps and timing belts are cheap
enough that if you are in that area of the engine and are able to do the repair
yourself, you might as well get the new parts and forget about it for at least
another 60K miles.

Whenever I buy a car with a belt driven OHC where I don't know the mileage on
the water pump/t-belt, or if it is over 70K, I replace it as a matter of
principal - if anything, it'll give you more peace of mind.

Subject: COOLANT leak at WATER PUMP

Everyone said water pump and I think you're all right. After removing the
fan and the water pump belt I could see that the leak is definately from
the water pump. There are two holes in the pump , one above and below the
housing that the pulley attaches to. It seems the the coolant is leaking
from the lower hole and it got worse while I worked on getting the pulley off.
Is this a symptom of a bad pump? Or could it be fixed? Might it also be a
gasket?

TIA,
Doug Sisson
