Heater fan motor

I am new to all this car stuff so please have some patience. I recently inherited a 1986 505 STI that has been off the road for several years. I now have the car on the road and have gone through numerous teething problems. I preperation for the winter I am looking for a used, but working , heater fan motor. At present the fan does not come on when I slide the fan control bar. Can this be fixed? Does anyone have a working motor? Dealer cost at the carage that does much of the work on this car is abour $300.00.
