By the way, if the situation was reversed, probably the guy in the Peugeot
would have died. Side impact at that speed is almost always fatal except,
possibly, for some new models with side bags and extra protection (above and
beyond the beams now required) in the doors. Also, Peugeot resisted putting
airbags in its US cars while others had them in 89. That could have saved
the ribs from damage. I am a true Peugeot fan, but not when it comes to
Peugeot's commitment to safety in its US cars. To revert to those damm mouse
passive restraints as a way to avoid airbags didnt do them any good in the
sales department in 90, but they had already decided by then to exit rather
than spend the money to do it right.
