Well...........for almost a year now, I've had a problem with my
A/C.....it would work, then it wouldn't......then it would. It was
almost as if it worked only when it personally wanted to...and that
usually didn't include a very hot day!
I knew the root problem had to be in that Bosch silvery box on the right
side, up under the main glove compartment. It has 3 wire harnesses which
push into the box. When the A/C would fail to engage, just by grabbing
ahold of the wiring and tugging at it a bit would engage it. But then,
it would unexpectedly go off at any time again, regularly.
After taking the 'box' apart, there's a circuit board in there.....it
looked fine but I resoldered some of the components just to make sure,
in case there were somehow hairline cracks. That never solved the
problem either, and just this past weekend, with much more fussing with
the box and whatnot, I inspected the circuit board once again and found
that it indeed had a small crack in it. So it was time to replace the
unit for good.
I called up George at Sunset Coachman, the local Charlotte, NC, Peugeot
repair center/salvage yard. He kindly met me Mon. at the shop (it was
not open) and accompanied me while I removed a unit from a parts car out
back. I got it for $40
and now my air works perfectly, and very, very cold, even colder than my
'98 Malibu.
This is one story with a happy ending......
